Testimonials

Having a child with dyslexia is not only a struggle for the child but a struggle for parents who want to provide the right support to assist with the challenge of reading and doing school work. Jan Wahl was a support to my son and my husband and I through the most difficult period of transition from being a non-reader to a proficient reader. Jan used the program known as Preventing Academic Failure to strengthen my son's skills in reading vocabulary words and short phrases. This style of learning, which differs from the more traditional approach, helped to bridge the gap. The outcome was very positive and resulted in better grades and less frustration for my son.

Dr. Wahl has worked with my 9-year-old son for a year, using her tremendous skill and expertise from years of working with children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities and from teaching teachers how to work with them. She has helped him make significant improvements in his reading and writing strategies and skills, which have contributed to improving his self-esteem. Dr. Wahl has liaised with his elementary school as appropriate to ensure coordination with curriculum and has recommended modifications in spelling and other areas that were implemented by the school. Dr. Wahl is devoted, warm, patient and full of compassion. She has seen the best in my son and has high standards for him; and as a result, he is encouraged to give his best. Dr. Wahl's skill combined with her loving gentle manner have contributed greatly to my son's continued improvement.

"With patience, understanding, and a wealth of knowledge, Jan taught our daughter the strategies and techniques necessary to become a successful reader. Not only did our daughter acquire a love of reading but tremendous self confidence as a person and a student. We feel so lucky to have found Jan."

It is difficult to put into words the overwhelming gratitude, respect and admiration I have for Janet.  What can I write that will communicate how I feel towards a woman who has transformed my child's life, and in turn, mine.

My daughter has had an IEP for 5 years.  Unfortunately, we did not know Janet until this year.  If we had known her years ago, I am convinced my daughter would not still need an IEP.  My daughter had lost her self-confidence; she was depressed and frustrated.  It was frustration, tears, and fears for both of us.

Janet is calm, steady, kind, compassionate, encouraging, and humorous.  She immediately identified my daughter's problems and after careful observation and consideration offered strategies to overcome and close the learning gaps.  She restored my daughter's confidence.  They laugh and learn together.  My daughter looks forward to her lessons.

Janet is a treasure, a rare person as well as a teacher.
