Rubrics are used to grade writing assignments.  Analytic rubrics contain the categories by which an assignment is rated.  Within those categories, there are levels of performance.  Benchmarks are examples of student work at each level.

When students have rubrics and examples of work that show a "high," "medium," or "low" paper, they can improve their written work independently.  This is a powerful tool to raise student achievement at every grade level. Dr. Wahl has led groups of teachers to develop the rubrics and benchmark papers.
